Keeping it real … Real Ale
“A clever woman once said; “fair is foul and foul is far”. On that note we threw in a young unacknowledged hoppy pislner, gave it a limp, wrinkly flavour and finished if off with an insulting high price that will give you a foul feeling in your mouth. That’s why we name Evil Twin Brewing Low Life the Golddigger of Beers.”
This is what the bottle label reads and gives us a good insight into the mindset of Evil Twin Brewing! Evil Twin Brewing Co are owned by one half of the famous fall out of Danish brewing twins that is Jeppe and Mikkel, Mikkel of course being Mikkeller and Jeppe being Evil Twin Brewing.
The bottle artwork is a simple design and to be honest other than the fact Evil Twin Brewing is on the front of the bottle this wouldn’t catch my attention! The beer pours a clear light golden pale colour with a small head that laces slightly around the top of the glass. There isn’t much from the aroma other than some fresh grass but it is very soft. It is fairly carbonated and stays that way throughout drinking the beer. The taste is much fuller, there is that initial biscuit malt that you come to expect from a German Pilsner but it finishes much more lighter and crisper like a Czech Pilsner, with a tingly spicy finish as the flavours with the carbonation fizzles on your tongue.
I must admit Pilsners don’t always particularly excited me much, it isn’t a style of beer I grab first, however Low Life is a decent beer. I could happily drink a pint of this although at 5.5% it might not be as session-able as it feels. Would I have this again? Yeah no doubt but like most Pilsners I am not in huge rush to find it again.
I am trying to do some more beer reviews for the blog as I have been slacking on them so I have decided to try and review all the beers I get from my Beer52 deliveries… watch this space for more and if you want to subscribe yourself like me then check out my voucher here!
